THANKS GUY!! BIOGRAPHY: In 1970, I was 9 years old, and staring in the front window of "The Rats Hole" at 801 Main Steet in Daytona Beach, Florida. I was fascinated by the local airbrush artists, busy cranking out t-shirts to the tourist-types by the dozens. The smell of that paint, the day-glo colors on top of those black-lined renderings from the likes of Ed Roth, Stanley Mouse, and Roach Studios.....I was hooked.... My folks always encouraged my artwork, and my Dad bought me my first airbrush shortly after. A Binks "Wren", I still have it.... By 72', we had moved to Florida permanently, and I hit the Rats Hole every chance I got. I was building models like crazy, it was the heyday of crazy showrod kits, monsters, drag racing, motocross......good times and memories.....the artists there were pretty cool showing me stuff and giving me deals on shirts! In junior high, I was doing a lot of artwork on school yearbooks, learning to paint waves and surf scenes, sculpting with ceramic clay. I was one of those art kids that got out of class to work on posters for ball games and all that crap. (hey, it beat sitting in math class!) I was fortunate to have some great art teachers thru those years, who along with my folks, encouraged me to keep drawing and painting... I think thru it all, the one thing I kept going back to and drawing was those crazy car-driving monsters, and one little rodent, Rat Fink. Now here I am at 51, still painting rat finks and monsters, and still building model kits! I've been fortunate to become friends with some great artists along the way, most notably Tom Daniel of monogram models fame, and Sonny DePalma, probably one of the greatest fink artists on the planet. I'm also a big fan of Ed Newton and Von Franco's work! Of course there's guys like Joey Deluxe who are hot and upcoming kulture artists who are taking it to new limits..... My models have come full circle. I've been working on building myself a complete set of Roth monster kits, along with some new stuff like the king-sized rat fink resin kit from Tornado Designs. (highly recommended) the big Frankenstein figure kit, brought back to life by Moebius Models, filled a long time spot on my grail list! Most of my car and bike builds are one-off stuff I have kitbashed, and the last year or two I've been doing a lot of sci-fi stuff with the release/re-release of so many good kits from Moebius and Polar Lights. I'm doing a lot of lighting with led's and fiber optics on all kinds of models, and I've just started dabbling in sound as well....it really brings your builds to life! Recommendations? Paasche airbrush's-more than one...parts are cheap....make your own manifold from pvc....automotive grade paints if your "serious"....wear a respirator so you can live to see your work become famous! A larger touch-up gun is a must too.....go with your gut...try to think outside the box, and don't do what everyone else does....step up each time you build....it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks, do what you like and leave your mark!
